CAMPS ARRANGED BY THANE EYE-CARE (TEC) HOSPITAL

Started on 10th  May 2005 Thane Eye-Care hospital has tried sincerely and succeeded in keeping its promise to itself, regarding offering best facilities for all, and poor in particular.

Though conceptualized as a trust hospital but not wanting to compromise on the quality the best of equipment and facilities were roped in to develop it. Yet charges were kept transparent and to a minimal. Consulting charge and operative cost for the needy has at any time since the inception been less than 50% that of the market charges. 

 
Some of the worthy activities for the masses till date :
 
Week long camp

Aim and objective :  To create awareness amongst the people of lokmanya nagar and yashodhan nagar about the facilities available at the newly opened trust hospital.

All  attending had their eyes checked free of cost. It was held at Thane Eye-Care hospital (TEC) from 11th to 17th May 2005.Dr.Ninu Shah and the rest of the TEC team helped. Approximately 150 patients had their eyes checked.

 
Hitwardhini camp

Aim and Objective : Free eye check up and free distribution of spectacles.

It was Organized by Corporator Sanjay Waghule and eye checkup was facilitated by TEC and its teamThe camp was held on 26th feb 2006 at Hitwardhini sabha in Brahmin society. 200 patients were checked free of cost. Some 28 persons were diagnosed for cataract.

 
On going weekly charity OPD
On every Tuesday patients are checked at concessional rate. Also rickshaw drivers and TMT drivers have been offered this facility on other days as well. Till date 13500 patients have availed of this discounted facility. Even the regular charge of Rs.150/- at TEC for consulting is 50% less than the routine charge by consultants in Thane (as most consultants charge upwards of Rs.300/- )
 
Road safety week

Aim and Objective : Free Eye checkup for all and especially rickshaw drivers.

It was organized by Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic) Dr.Dnyaneshwar Chavan as part of the road safety week. It was conducted just outside the thane railway station . Around 100 rickshaw drivers and other walkin people got themselves checked. While eye specialists were from TEC hospital, the optometry team was from Modern Opticians.

 
Shirol camp

Aim and Objective : Free eye check up and free cataracts for the adivasis and other villagers around shirol , shahpur taluka .

It was organized by RUDRA an NGO operational amongst the tribals of Shahapur. Mrs. Rajani Sahasrabuddhe the secretary played key role in the organization. GAIL company had taken the initiative to support the expense for the camp and for the operations thereafter. Ophthalmologists were Dr.Ninu Shah, Dr.Aparna and Dr.Nimesh . Optometrists were from Modern Opticians. Rest of the team was from TEC hospital (shalakha, mariamma, avinash, palani, deepali.)More than 350 patients were checked and around 70 cataracts were identified. 

 
Khardi camp

Aim and Objective : Free eye check up and free cataracts for the adivasis and other villagers around shirol , shahpur taluka.

It was organized by RUDRA an NGO operational amongst the tribals of Shahapur. Mrs. Rajani Sahasrabuddhe the secretary played key role in the organization. GAIL company had taken the initiative to support the expense for the camp and for the operations thereafter. Ophthalmologists were Dr.Ninu Shah and Dr. Rahul kelkar and Dr.Mrs.Kelkar. and Dr.Shailaja Pillai. Optometrists were from Mayekar Opticians. Rest of the team was from TEC hospital (gayatri, swati, palani, deepali.)Around 300 patients were checked and around 50 cataracts were identified.

 
Wada camp

Aim and objective of the camp : It was an eye checkup camp.

Patients were charged a nominal fee of Rs.10/ as registration. Fee was collected and kept by the local organizers. Those with refraction errors were offered spectacles at minimal cost of Rs.50/- (single lens) & Rs.120 (double lens). Cataract and other operations possible at Thane Eye Care were diagnosed. Local organizers offered to ferry the patients in batches of 10 on specified days to Thane Eye Care where they would be operated free. The operation cost (including the lens) and the transportation would be TOTALLY FREE !!!! It was held on 17th feb 2008 at wada (60 km from thane). The venue was Gurukrupa hospital. Dr.Vaibhav Gandhe owner of the hospital was the local organizer. Ophthalmologists were Dr.Ninu Shah, Dr.Vaishali Khemkar Dr.Pareen Shah. Supporting team comprised of Gayatri , Vrushali, Dipali & Shamshyad. Optometrists were sent by Mayekar Opticians. 250 patients were screened for cataract and other eye problems. 80 patients were short listed for operations.

 
Effects of diabetes on the eye

Aim and objective of the camp : Camp was arranged for creating awareness amongst the masses about the harmful effects of diabetes on the eye. Diabetic retinopathy, cataract and glaucoma being some of them. 

A nominal fee of Rs.50/- was collected from all attending it. A lecture was given emphasizing on the importance of a 6 monthly eye check up for known diabetics. Also they were given a complete eye checkup to rule out cataract, glaucoma and refractive errors.  Idea was to hold such monthly camps for small groups of people. Not only lay people even physicians fail to advice their diabetic patients about the importance of periodic eye checkup. It was held on 29th march at TEC at 1 pm.  12 people attended it. Ophthalmologists were Dr.Ninu Shah, Dr.Vaishali Khemkar, Dr.Pareen Shah and Dr.Anand from pramukh swami hospital.

 
Mamnoli camp (Murbad taluka)

Aim and Objective : Free eye check up and medicines and free cataracts for the adivasis and other villagers around mamnoli, Murbad taluka

It was organized on 27th Dec 2009 by NSS group of Dnyan Sadhana college. Mr.Bhagure Sir, professor in Dnyan Sadhana college played key role in the organization. It was held at a local school. It was conducted totally free of cost. Eye drops and other local medications were distributed free of cost. Those for cataract were shortlisted and it would be organizers responsibility to ferry the patients to TEC on a predecided date for the operations. Ophthalmologists were Dr.Ninu Shah and Dr.Srihari Karve.. Rest of the team was from TEC hospital (gayatri, prajakta, reshma and shamshyad.) Around 100 patients were checked and around 25 cataracts were identified. 

 
Inde-Sayele village (Murbad taluka). Mazgaon dock Trust camp

Aim and Objective : Free eye check up and medicines and free cataracts for the adivasis and other villagers around Inde, sayale village Murbad taluka

It was organized on 27th Feb 2010 by Mazgaon Dock trust group. Chief organizers were Mr.Sanjay Kolvankar & Mr.Anil Parab. It was held at the trust property located around 5 km ahead of saralgaon on the murbad malshej highway. It was conducted totally free of cost. Eye drops and other local medications were distributed free of cost. Those for cataract were shortlisted and it would be organizers responsibility to ferry the patients to TEC on a predecided date for the operations.

Ophthalmologists were Dr.Ninu Shah and Dr.Srihari Karve and Dr.Sandeep Nakhate. Rest of the team was from TEC hospital (Dipali, madhuri and shamshyad.) and THC (Laali & Jyoti). Around 260 patients were checked and around 45 cataracts were identified. Blood examination was conducted by Thane Health care hospital.

 
Dadoji Kondev – Thane camp 

Aim and Objective : Free eye check up and free cataracts for the locals around  kharlton road slum around dadoji kondev maidan . also blood and general checkup supported by janardan Liladhar trust.

It was organized on 5th Dec 2010 by Mr.Anil Thanekar along with Dr.Reddy’s training institute. Mr. Anil Thanekar had helped in distributing the, pamphlets in the neighbouring areas. The camp was to commemorate 6th Dec, Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti. Ophthalmologists were Dr. Shrihari Karve & Dr. Sandeep Nakhate. Rest of the team was from TEC hospital (deepali & reshma) and THC hospital (babita, laali and her colleague). Around 60 patients were checked. Blood and ophthalmic report was distributed on 7th Dec at Dr. Reddy’s training centre. 

 
Chendani koliwada camp

Aim & Objective-free eye check up & cataract surgeries at subsidised rates for the people residing at chendani koliwada on the occasion of independence day 15th aug. 2014.

It was organised & conducted by TEC HOSPITAL along with Dr Ninu Shah/Dr Veena Shendarkar. Around  165 pts were examined & out of them 21 pts have successfully undergone cataract surgery with IOL implant. 2 pts have undergone DCR surgery for chronic Dacryocystitis. 1 pt have undergone LASIK for high myopia. [refractive error]      

 
DAV PUBLIC SCHOOL,Tulsidham ,THANE
Free Eye Check up camp for students of DAV PUBLIC SCHOOL THANE[PRE PRIM/PRIM/SEC Section] camp was conducted & organised by DR Ninu shah/DR Veena Shendarkar. It was a diagnostic camp wherein students were scrutinised for Refractive error/squint/Vit A deficiency/Allergic conjunctivitis/corneal opacities/congenital cataract/retinal disorders in childhood/other eye diseases] This camp was conducted from 24/7/14-8/8/14. 1500 students were examined in this eye camp.       
 
FREE EYE CAMP FOR HIRKANI 

Aim & Objective  - To provide free eye checkup for Hirkani woman organisation for common woman. 

Hirkani is biggest organisation in Maharashtra having membership strength of 50,000 plus women members and 1500 plus small saving groups in Thane city.  The team of Thane Eye Care Hospital with DR Ninu Shah Almel & DR Veens Shendarkar Run a free Eye checkup for Hirkani &their families on every Wednesday/Thursday/Friday.  We have started with Hirkani Eye camp from 18/3/15 till now we have examined  132 Hirkani’s .

 
Independence Day-15th Aug' 2015 Camp

Aim & Objective - To celebrate Independence day on 15th August 2015 - Thane Eye Care Hospital had organised free diagnostic Eye camp for all.

The camp was organised & conducted by Thane Eye Care Hospital & entire team of staffs along with Dr. Ninu Shah & Dr. Veena Shendarkar.
Around 73 patients were examined, out of the 8 patients were diagnosed with Cataract, who had then successfully undergone Cataract Surgery with IOL implant.

1 pts had undergone LASIK (refractive surgery) for correcting high myopia.

6 pts had treated with YAG LASER Capsulotomy for PCO (Post Cataract Surgery - Posterior Capsular opacification

 

'R' Mall - Ghodbunder Road - 19/09/2015. (Employees / Working Staff of R Mall)

Aim & Objective - Free Eye check up for staff at 'R' Mall Ghodbunder Road with Thane Eye Care Hospital team, staff along with Dr. Ninu Shah & Dr. Veena Shendarkar have conducted a free diagnostic Eye check up camp at R. Mall Ghodbunder Road, where around 93 employees of this mall + 120 customers visiting the Mall, total no of 213 people were examined, who had been offered discount on Spectacle, on the Surgical procedures.
